It`s my conceit that perhaps some diseases perceived as diseases that destroy a well-functioning machine actually turn it into a new but still well-functioning machine with a different purpose. The AIDS virus: look at it from its point of view. Very vital, very excited, really having a good time. It`s really a triumph if you`re a virus. See the movies from the disease`s point of view. You can see why they would resist all attempts to destroy them. These are all cerebral games, but they have emotional correlatives as well.

Hisss es la nueva película de Jennifer Lynch y es otro proyecto interesante realizado en Bollywood que promete. Lamentablemente por el ataque viral los cines cerraron justo cuando estrenaron su película Surveillance, que hablé en un post anterior. Ojalá que se reanude todo pronto y podamos apreciar la película ganadora del festiva de Sitges.

30 clavos en la cabeza

En Australia se encontró un cuerpo flotando en el río con 30 clavos en la cabeza provocados por una nail gun. Además, fue descubierto por dos niños.

Recuerdo mucho como a mediados de los noventa, el nombre de Lars Von Trier era para los eruditos en el cine, que la nueva onda de Dinamarca, que Dogma, que la película insufrible de Björk. El problema es que se agotó todo su discurso. Al parecer, Von Trier regresa a ese cine extraño y provocativo, como la serie The Kingdom. Esperemos, esperemos...

En un post anterior comenté sobre la mejor película del 2008, una rareza de Suecia llamada Let The Right In (estrenada en el FICCO y después comercialmente con el nombre Déjame Entrar). Ya la había visto antes y en cine se aprecia mucho más: las atmósferas, el audio, la fotografía, hasta ese acabado ochentero en el cual está ubicada la cinta. Tenía que leer el libro, y resultó ser una auténtica maravilla. El autor del libro John Ajvide Lindqvist es el mismo que el Screenplay, por eso su fidelidad al texto original. Antes de convertirse en escritor, Lindqvist era mago y comediante porque quería sorprender a la gente. Y vaya que lo logró, pero con su primera novela. Un éxito inesperado, sobre todo en un mercado como el de su país, no caracterizado por hacer historias de género.



La historia en el libro es más extensa, como es de suponer. Los personajes son más complejos y las vidas de cada uno son más retorcidas. El libro te traslada a esos suburbios de cualquier ciudad, en donde existe una calma aparente, pero hay una violencia que está a punto de estallar en cualquier momento. En una entrevista hecha al director de la película, Tomas Alfredson, decía: "En Suecia no hay nada, solo frío y ABBA, por eso tenemos que hacer esas historias. Pobres de los Suecos".

32 kilos es la serie de imágenes de la fotógrafa alemana Ivonne Thein. En su sitio describre la serie de esta manera: "This photograph comes from Ivonne Thein’s series entitled “Thirty-Two Kilos,” which deals with the pathological striving of young men and women to be extremely thin. The background to this work is a phenomenon that emerged in the US already in the 1990s with the Internet movement “Pro Ana,” which elevates anorexia nervosa to the status of a new, positive lifestyle for young women. The Internet has become the virtual home to diverse communities that do not define themselves as self-help groups for those suffering from eating disorders. Quite the opposite, they support the desire to lose weight, circulating encouraging slogans to help girls achieve the perfect bodies of their dreams. On these sites, this extreme body ideal is illustrated with abundant visual material. Role models are celebrated – for example, female celebrities with anorexia, who seem to embody the connection between extreme physical self-control and a happier and more successful life. The health risks of this lifestyle, however, disappear from view. At the same time, one also regularly finds photographs on these sites that the trained eye can recognize as having been manipulated."
